Minimum System Requirements for M1™

  • Pentium 4 or better processor
  • Windows® 2000/XP/Vista/7 or higher operating system (US English version recommended; 32-bit version only)
    (Special Windows Vista note: you must turn off User Account Control while installing M1. For details on how to do this, go here)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 and v2.0 (The M1 installer will install these if needed)
  • RAM: 1GB
  • 100 MB free hard disc space for installation, plus sufficient space for storage of data files.
    • VvT data files are approx. 4 times the number of voltage data points each; e.g. a 1M pt acquisition would create a 4MB VvT (Voltage versus Time) file, while a 16M pt acquisition would create a 64MB VvT file
    • The VTC (Voltage vs Time, Compressed) file format will generally require 70-80% less space than the equivalent VvT file
    • TvT (Time versus Time) data files are approximately 8 times the number of threshold crossing times each.
  • CD-ROM drive if installing from a CD
  • 15" monitor that is capable of 1024x768 resolution — not required for running inside of a Windows®-based oscilloscope, but recommended so that the user can view both the scope application and M1™ at the same time.
  • One free USB port -- for hardware security key
  • Mouse -- not required with a touch-screen scope
  • If running on an external PC, you will need a way to connect to the scope. NI-VISA v3.0 (or higher) OR Agilent Technologies VISA (or I/O Suite v14 or higher) is required. Please note that these are available as free upgrades from the respective companies if you currently own a valid license of a previous version of the VISA product. Connection options are:
    • Ethernet/local network: You will need an Ethernet cable and an Ethernet port on the PC.
    • USB-TMC: You will need a USB cable with appropriate connectors and a second free USB port.
    • GPIB: You will need:
      • One free PCI or PCMCIA slot for the GPIB card
      • AT82350 (PCI) or NI PCI-GPIB interface card and VISA software for a desktop system; NI PCMCIA-GPIB card and VISA software for a laptop system

  • NEW COMPUTER FOR USE ONLY AS THE M1™ SYSTEM CONTROLLER -- note that running inside the scope is not recommended
  • Intel Core 2, AMD Phenom, or higher processor
  • RAM: 2GB or more
  • 17" monitor or flat-panel display
  • Keyboard
  • USB-TMC connectivity can be used as a substitute for GPIB connectivity if the scope supports it.
