M1 Oscilloscope Tools v5.01 Now
Available
Advanced Waveform
Exploration
Following up on the tremendous positive
reception M1 OT v5 had at DesignCon 2008 with Hidden
Anomaly Location, ASA is now releasing M1 OT v5.01. This
latest revision includes many new features, the most
notable of which are the implementation of a variety of
Advanced
Waveform Exploration shortcuts. Wielding only a
mouse, the user can access a variety of methods for
zooming, panning, and even THROWING their waveforms (ASA
President Mike Williams personally loves this
capability) to quickly and precisely navigate through
their data. A significant number of keyboard navigation
shortcuts have also been added to enable zooming and
panning without even needing the mouse. This is
definitely NOT your father's oscilloscope controls!

A
new video has been posted on the ASA website
alongside our existing collection of highly useful
training videos. This video demonstrates some of these
new features and demonstrates strikingly just how fast
you can now drill down to see a particular event of
interest, or zoom back out to get the big picture. A
detailed list of all the new keyboard and mouse commands
can be found in the M1 Help file.
Improved Compliance Testing
The easy to use,
graphical ScriptBuilder capability is the foundation of
compliance testing within M1 OT, although it's just as
useful at increasing a user's productivity through
automation of common and/or repetitive measurements. In
an effort to make it even more user friendly for our
ever increasing number of compliance test users, we have
added some additional messaging and made other small
changes to create a more efficient workflow and make
creating your own automations as painless as possible.
One of these improvements is in the AutoValidate
capability - ScriptBuilder is now even better able to
monitor your script as it is created and warn you about
potential problems that should be resolved. It's just a
small part of ASA's thrust towards increasing the amount
of embedded intelligence in the product.
ASA has tests for many popular standards
available for
free download
from our website for any user of M1 OT. The newest additions to
this growing collection are DisplayPort, DVI, and DDR3.
We've also upgraded our PCI Express Script to be
compliant with the 2.0 standard. Remember, if you need a test that we haven't written
yet, you can use M1 and ScriptBuilder to
create it yourself
in a matter of hours.
Deep
Memory Support
If you've ever used M1 OT or scope
software on very deep memory measurements, you know how
difficult it can be. Recently we've had a customer
requiring very deep memory analysis and it gave us a
chance to examine how we handle really large chunks of
memory out of the scope. As a result, we have
significantly improved the management of system
resources when handling large records and have also come
up with some really neat ideas on how to improve deep
memory handling even further, and in directions you may
not have imagined possible. You should expect some more
from us on that soon.
ASA Saves the Day
After a visit to one of our customers in
Texas, we were presented with a very specific problem
from one of their engineers. After discussing the issue
with him a bit, we discovered that he had been trying to
solve this particular issue for nearly a year. Since ASA
is always willing to take on a challenge, we offered to
see if we could provide a solution for him. At the same
time, one of the scope manufacturers had made a similar
offer…so the race was on.
One of our engineers got on the phone
with the customer and learned his way around the
problem. It turns out the customer was trying to make a
very unusual measurement, and was having a hard time
making it accurately. Due to the esoteric nature of this
problem, M1 OT didn't have this measurement among the
over 250 that are built-in. Thankfully, M1
does
have a simple framework for adding new measurements, and
our Chief Engineer began coding the measurement
immediately. Before the day was over, he had a
measurement ready to go. Upon testing, our customer
realized we had nailed the problem, and that M1, along
with this new measurement, provided the solution he
needed.

Mike Williams, president of ASA, was
extremely impressed by his engineering team, saying, "Our
ability to turn on a dime and go the extra mile for our
customers continues to amaze me."
Employment
Opportunities at ASA

passion to dominate the industry to ASA.
ASA is also seeking an
exceptional individual to provide the necessary care and
feeding of our domestic and international sales
channels. Experience in consulting work selling test and
