Guidance About Participating in the M1 Recommender Program

Before you register your entire Rolodex with us, please consider a few facts.

How much is the finder's fee?

The M1 Recommender Program pays two levels of finder's fees:

  • Referral-only Purchase of M1 OT - the finder's fee is 7%. This escalates to 10% if, in any 6-month period, you provide ASA with at least 10 successful references (i.e. turn into business). The typical M1 order is between $6,000 and $15,000, though it can be much higher for "Lab Advantage" sales (multi-unit, multi-product).

  • Participation in Sales Process with the Referral of M1 OT - the finder's fee is 10%. This escalates to 12% if, in any 6-month period, you provide ASA with at least 10 successful references (i.e. turn into business). The typical M1 order is between $6,000 and $15,000, though it can be much higher for "Lab Advantage" sales (multi-unit, multi-product).

Who should I refer?

We anticipate a high level of participation and we have limited resources. We're going to be looking for evidence of submission quality at every step to make sure we aren't spinning our wheels. For example, if you give us a referral that works or is even just appropriate in our judgment, we're going to take other referrals you provide more seriously and pursue them harder. It pays to put your best candidates in first. On the other hand, if we find someone's referrals are all security guards and accountants, we will lose interest in those quickly. You and ASA are both better off if you register a few quality referrals than "name dumping". We will immediately reject any submissions that appear to be name dumping.

We're most interested in certain kinds of referrals because they are more likely to turn into business once they know what a superior tool M1 is...

  • Engineers buying a new mid-range to high-end scope - ASA is very eager to enroll as many of these as possible. We are convinced that M1 will become the industry standard if enough engineers are just exposed to the product, and "free/does more" vs. "ungodly expensive/narrow" seems to be the best way to broadly get the word out.

  • Scope users - Anyone for whom using a scope is a common part of their day. This includes design engineers, quality engineers, signal integrity engineers, lab technicians, etc.

  • Lab and Engineering Managers/Directors - These are the job titles that are most in a position to appreciate the massive organizational benefits that M1 OT can provide. We pay an extra 3% for these.

  • Procurement specialists - One of the principal functions of purchasing professionals is to save their organizations money. In T&M, nothing fits that bill better than M1.

  • Procurement Managers - They care even more and also qualify for the extra 3%.

Bonus Information

As you see above, some referrals pay a 3% bonus. Also, we know some recommenders will be able to do more with this program than others. To cultivate those relationships, ASA is offering a bonus step. If you give us 10 referrals that turn into business over a 6 month period, we will increase your base referral-only finder's fee from 7% to 10% or the participation finder’s fee from 10% to 12% for all payouts after that for the next 12 months.
