M1 Waveform Tools vs Agilent Infiniiscan

  • M1 Waveform Tools is Agilent's primary jitter solution for real time scopes. Infiniiscan does not make any jitter measurements. Add $4000-$8000 more.
  • Compliance tests are "extra" &hdash; $2000-$9000 each.
  • Eye-diagram and serial-data tools are extra – $3995 - $7995
  • Automation – No ability to automate sequences of measurements or add measurements. M1 has ScriptBuilder, an intuitive graphical tool for clicking them together quickly.

  • Agilent Technologies' InfiniiScan software borrows some capabilities from M1's RunUntil feature.
  • Infiniiscan has five modes in which it can function to provide more sophisticated triggering capabilities than the scope normally has. These modes are mutually exclusive; only one can be active at a given time. This contrasts poorly with M1, where all of the comparable features can be used simultaneously.
  • M1 Event Triggering (with "Stop on Condition" set) provides virtually unlimited conditions can be set versus only one for Infiniiscan.
  • M1 has a "must not pass" user-definable eye mask capability. An M1 user can set an Event Triggering condition on the eye diagram's BER statistic. This allows a continuous acquisition to be stopped when a mask violation occurs. M1 masks are polygons (not restricted to squares like Infiniiscan). M1 can be set to open more than one EyeView (and the appropriate Event Triggering conditions) so the user can analyze the same signal with as many different user-defined "polygon regions" as required.
  • M1 has a triggering capability that is up to 16 bits deep simultaneously  across all
    available channels and works up to the bandwidth of the scope (e.g. >35 Gbps for an 18 GHz BW).
  • M1 Event Triggering on a Pulsewidth measurement with "Stop on Condition" is a Runt Finder. It is better because at 60 GSa/s, events as narrow as ~20 ps could be seen; even at 40 GSa/s, events well below 70 ps (this is Infiniiscan's min limit) could be seen. And this type of test can also be performed on multiple channels simultaneously instead of merely one channel.
  • M1 provides virtually unlimited Event Triggering conditions versus only five for Infiniiscan. Continuous acquisition with "Save on Failure" set can produce more data more quickly than saving each violation acquisition separately. Inifiniiscan does have the ability to automatically navigate through multiple violations in a single acquisition and an ability to count individual failures.
  • Infiniiscan has a separate Measurement Limit Test functionality, which is very much like RunUntil but at a greatly reduced capability level.
  • M1 currently does not have a non-monotonic edge finder capability, but some of these edges can be found with M1 Event Triggering.
  • M1 supports more Agilent scopes than Inifiniiscan does, and of course, more LeCroy, Tek and Yokogawa scopes. Infiniiscan is only available for AT 80000-series and 8000-series scopes.
  • Portfolio – no offline analysis or no client/server (M1 Reader), no LabView.
  • Product philosophy things – No scalable pricing, proprietary, not portable, fine-grained a-la-carte-ing (i.e. you pay for the sugar), and it costs more to own because of these things.
  • M1 is not restricted to running on the tiny scope screen
