ASA - The Company

Amherst Systems Associates, Inc. (ASA Corp.) started in 1985 as an engineering consultation firm specializing in the development and application of technologies for high-precision waveform timing and measurement. Mike Williams, the president of ASA, has guided the company since its start. Mike, and subsequently ASA, is considered to be the primary innovator and industry leader in clock and timing and time-interval measurement. ASA has provided technical consultation to computer systems, semiconductor, test-equipment and other organizations engaged in high-speed digital electronics/measurement throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Asia/Pacific region.

During the years of consultation while ASA was involved in the development of various measurement technologies, it recognized the need for a comprehensive, accurate and easy to use timing tool. Consequently, M1™ was developed, and quickly became the comparative Jitter Measurement Standard for clock and timing test and measurement.  In fact, M1 is the standard to which all others in the test and measurement industry compare themselves. ASA introduced the first M1™ Serial Data jitter measurement tool in 1998 because we recognized the urgent and sophisticated needs of the ever-expanding communications industry. As the industry has grown and its needs changed, ASA has made changes in M1 so that it has always been the leading edge Serial Data jitter measurement tool.

ASA Corp. has been developing relationships with new partners.  You can now find ASA's M1 family of products supporting the major real-time scope manufacturers.  You can also purchase partners' OEM versions of M1 from some of them directly.  Regardless of where you purchased your version of M1, you can be assured that ASA Corp. will work with you, share its jitter measurement expertise, and will help you to find the solution to your clock or serial data jitter measurement problems.

We have some application notes on how to measure and characterize jitter, and on things that cause jitter. You can request copies of these application notes .
